The essential oil is a traditional medicine widely used in aromatherapy. Because of its various benefits to health, they are being widely used nowadays. The essential oil can be used in various diseases because of its healing properties from head to toe or toe to head. They are produced by water distillation or steam of roots, petal, leaves, buds, or any part of the herbal plants or medicinal plants. They are commonly used in spas and in beauty products with multiple combinations of various essential oils.

As people are getting benefits from aromatherapy it is becoming more and more useful in treating diseases like a cough, cold, asthma, tuberculosis, bronchitis, cardiac diseases and much more. Even Psychiatrist is also using essential oils in curing depression and psychosomatic diseases.  There are more than 100 types of essential oils available on the market. Allspice Essential Oil

Allspice oil is extracted by steam distillation of Pimenta dioica’s leaf and the fruit. It is also known as Jamaica pepper or Pimento oil. The color of this oil is yellowish brown as the flowers are yellow in color. It smells like clove oil.

Allspice oil is used to control digestive disorders, indigestion, nausea, reducing muscle cramps.

Besides its use in physical ailments it is also used in case of depression, hypertension, nervous breakdown, stress, or in any kind of emotional disturbances.

It is also useful for diabetes mellitus people to treat neuralgia. Its medicinal uses are uncountable.

It is best to use this oil for massage for chest congestion, bronchitis, extreme cold, rheumatoid arthritis, cramps etc.

 

Angelica Essential Oil

Angelica essential oil is extracted from steam distillation of the root, seed, and rhizome of Angelica archangelica plant.

It is also known as the European Angelica. It has a sweet and spicy smell like cinnamon oil and has a medium consistency. It is mainly found in European countries like Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark.

Angelica oil is used to treat abdominal diseases like indigestion, flatulence, water retention, psoriasis. It also helps in treating anemia, anorexia, cough, bronchitis etc

This oil is very useful in healing skin irritations and rejuvenates skin.

Owing to its antidepressant properties it is used to treat anxiety, nervousness, and stress-related disorders.

 

Anise Essential Oil

Anise essential oil is extracted from steam distillation of seeds of the Pimpinella anisum herb. It is also called Vulgare and P. Officinate. It has a sweet pungent smell of anise or sweet cumin.

It is a warm and spicy oil with medium consistency. It solidifies in low temperature like coconut oil.

Anise oil is prominently used in aromatherapy in treating lungs disease, migraine, headaches, muscle pain, cough and cold.

Besides that it is commonly used in curing mental ailments like fear, depression, anxiety.

Basil Essential Oil

This oil is extracted from the steam distillation of the Ocimum basilicum herb. This plant is also known as sweet basil.

It has a very thin consistency like water. The oil has a pale greenish shade. It has a very light peppery sweet smell. It is mainly found in European countries, and Southeast Asia and India.

This oil is widely used in making Ayurvedic and Homeopathic medicines in India for treating cough, cold, respiratory infection like asthma, bronchitis.

It is also a good tonic for brain and nerves.

During steam inhalation, 2-3 drops of basil essential oil can provide much relief in congestion of nasal and chest.

This oil provides relief in case of nausea, constipation, and vomiting as well.

It is also very useful in female menstrual disorders like an irregular menstrual cycle and helps in reducing uric acid in blood so it is also useful in treating gout.

Bay Essential Oil

Bay Essential oil is extracted from the steam distillation of the fresh leaves of Laurus nobilis tree. Bay is an evergreen tree from the West Indies, also known as sweet bay and Mediterranean bay. The smell of Bay oil is sweet, fresh and spicy. The color of this oil is yellow with thin viscosity.

It has multiple medicinal uses as it is antiseptic, antibiotic, anti-neuralgic, antispasmodic and many more. This helps in reducing body pain and aches.

This oil is known to improve scalp health and hence used as a hair tonic.

 

Benzoin Essential Oil

Benzoin oil is extracted from the resin of the 7 and older Styrax Benzoin tree. It is also known as Benjamin, gum benzoin, or Styrax benzoin.

It has a sweet, warm and vanilla like aroma. The color of this oil is golden brown with treacle-like consistency.

It is very helpful in treating mental ailments like melancholy and common ailments like cough and cold. It has an antidepressant property and is used in cosmetics as well.

It is used in skin disorders like itchiness, redness, rashes, and irritation. Benzion essential oil is also very effective in mouth ulcers, eczema, wounds, psoriasis, and chilblains

 

Bergamot Essential Oil

Bergamot essential oil is extracted from the ripe and unripe fruit of Citrus aurantium tree. It is also known as Bergamot orange. This essential oil has a very fresh citrusy and sweet smell somewhat like fragrance of lavender and neroli oil. The color of this essential oil is green to greenish yellow. It has very thin consistency.

Bergamot essential oil is mainly used in treating depression, anxiety, fear, hysteria and/or many mental ailments. This is also useful in curing all type of skin infections like acne, eczema and skin irritations.

Birch Essential Oil

Birch oil is extracted from the slow steam distillation of the bark of Betula alba. It is also known as European Birch (White or Silver). The color of the oil is pale yellow and has a balsamic smell. The leaf buds are also used in the extraction of oil.

Birch Essential oil is used in skin disorders like eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, dull skin etc. It also aids in regulation of blood circulations, detoxify the body. The Birch essential oil is commonly used in arthritis, edema, cellulite, rheumatism, and any kind of muscular pains

 

Bitter Almond Essential Oil

Bitter Almond essential oil is extracted from Prunus amygdalus plant. It is also known as Prunus communis. This oil contains cyanide a well-known poison.

Bitter almond oil is widely used for killing worms, bacteria, germs, fungi.

It has a sedative property and its anaesthetic property also causes numbness. It is anti-inflammatory. This oil removes water retention from the body and also known as a fat burner. The Bitter almond oil is also used in treating hydrophobia, curing spasmodic pains.

 

Black Pepper Essential Oil

Boldo Essential Oil

Boldo essential oil is extracted from steam distillation of leaves of Peumus boldus. The color of this oil is yellow. It has very strong and unbearable smell. It is a very powerful oil even a little smell can cause convulsions and considered very toxic in nature.

Because of its toxicity, this oil is not used in Aromatherapy.

Boldo essential oil is used to reduce toxins from the body. It is very good for the liver and promotes bile secretion to maintain the digestion. It is also used to treat arthritis and other muscular pains.

 

Buchu Essential Oil

Buchu oil is extracted by steam distillation of the dried leaves from Agothosma betulina.  It is also known as bookoo and Bucco. It has a very strong smell of blackcurrant just like a tincture. It is mostly used for pharmaceutical use.

This oil is not recommended for aromatherapy. It regulates the metabolism and protects from any infections. It also gives relief in urinary tract infection and also in kidney infections. It heals wounds from septic. It improves digestion and also very useful in cold and cough.

It is also useful as an insecticide.
